My encoder won't connect

1 min readUpdated November 8, 2026

Work through these checks if your broadcasting software can't connect.

Check these first

  1. Server type: choose SHOUTcast v1 (legacy). Leave mountpoint and user empty.
  2. Port: use the live DJ port from Live DJ → Connection Info. The stream port (the one in your listener URL) doesn't accept DJs.
  3. Password: use the live DJ password or the DJ's own account password, not the stream password from Broadcast.
  4. Allowed times: if the DJ account has days or hours set, it can only connect during those times.
  5. Address: just the host name, without http:// or a slash at the end.

Network

SHOUTcast v1 software connects to the live port and the port right after it. Some company, school or hotel networks block unusual ports. Try another network, for example your phone's hotspot. A VPN can also cause connection drops.

It connects, then drops

Usually an unstable upload. Lower the bitrate to 96 kbps and use a cable instead of Wi-Fi.
