BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool)
Set up the free BUTT encoder to go live on your station.
BUTT is a free, simple encoder for Windows, Mac and Linux. It sends your microphone or mixer to your station. We tested these settings with BUTT 1.4x.
Connection values
| Server type | SHOUTcast (v1 / legacy) |
|---|---|
| Address / host | Your station address, for example yourstation.radiohost.net |
| Port | The live DJ port shown in your panel under Live DJ → Connection Info |
| Password | Your live DJ password (not the stream password) |
| Mountpoint / user | Leave empty |
| Format | MP3, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz, stereo |
Where are my values? Open your panel, go to Live DJ and look at the card
Go live: set up your encoder. Address, port and password are filled in for your station and each has a copy button.
Set up BUTT
- Open BUTT and click Settings.
- On the Main tab, under Server, click ADD.
- Enter a name, choose type SHOUTcast, and fill in address, port and password. Leave the other fields empty.
- Click ADD to save.
- On the Audio tab, choose your microphone or mixer as input. Set codec MP3 and bitrate 128 kbps.
- Close the settings and click the Play button. BUTT shows connected and the timer starts.
- To send song titles, open Settings → Stream and type a title, or let BUTT read it from a file.
If it doesn't connect
- Check that you used the live DJ port from the panel, not your stream port.
- Check that you used the live DJ password (or a DJ account password), not the stream password from Broadcast.
- SHOUTcast v1 programs also use the next port up automatically. Make sure your firewall or network allows both.
