Broadcasting live

1 min readUpdated November 8, 2026

How live shows work: your DJ connects, the AutoDJ steps aside, and comes back when you stop.

You can go live from any computer with broadcasting software. When a DJ connects, listeners hear the live show right away. When the DJ disconnects, the AutoDJ continues with your music. Listeners stay connected the whole time.

What you need

  • Broadcasting software, for example BUTT (free) or Mixxx (free).
  • A microphone or mixer.
  • A stable internet connection with at least 1 Mbit/s upload.

Your connection details

Open Live DJ in your panel. The Connection Info card shows your server address, live DJ port and password. Below it, Go live: set up your encoder has step-by-step instructions for popular programs.

Server typeSHOUTcast (v1 / legacy)
Address / hostYour station address, for example yourstation.radiohost.net
PortThe live DJ port shown in your panel under Live DJ → Connection Info
PasswordYour live DJ password (not the stream password)
Mountpoint / userLeave empty

Check that you're live

The Broadcast Status card on the Live DJ page switches to live within a few seconds and shows the DJ name. The song title your software sends is shown to listeners.

AI announcements during live shows

On AI Radio plans you can pause automatic announcements while a DJ is live. See AI Radio → Announcements & Quiet Hours.
